When

My philosophy is “Live More Fear Less

When the idea strikes, the assignment comes in or the passion is ignited, my wheels start turning. I’m pretty fearless when it comes to learning.  If I want to build or create something, I dig in to learn what it takes to do the job.

This website is an example…  I wanted to create a personal website.  I researched  how to best go about designing and building the site, securing hosting, etc.  A few years ago, I’d taken one online class in creating web pages, e.g. basic HTML, so I knew just enough to get myself in trouble.  More research was prudent.

This led me to discover Word Press – easy and exciting route to website development.  In case you don’t know the platform, it is open source software, maintained by users all over the world.  The energy and enthusiasm for WP that comes across in blogs and forums kept me from feeling defeated when I was struggling with my efforts to change a particular element of the theme that is the basis for my site. studio press magazine

There are myriad ready-to-go WP themes that have been built by independent WP developers out there.  A ready-built theme makes it easy to get a website up and running in a relatively short time.  That is, unless you’re like me and feel the need to customize.  That can add some weeks to your task.

I reviewed many and selected one that had the bones I knew could support my concept for managethefabric.com .  At right is an image of the theme “Magazine” before I got to work on it.  While I don’t yearn for a career in web design, I’m glad to have learned some of what it takes to create an online presence.
